We always quote in Ardas (Sikh Prayer) for Bhai Taru Singhji:
Jinhaan’ singhaan’ singhaniaan’ nae dHaram haet sees deettae, baaNd baaNd kataa-ae, Khopariaan’ luhaa-ee-aan’, charkharee-aan’ tae charhae, aare-aan’ naal chiraa-ae ga-ae, Gurduaare-aan’ dee saevaa la-ee kurbaaniaan’ keeTee-aan’, dHaram naheen’ haareaa, Sikhee kaesaan’ svaasaan’ naal nibhaa-ee, tinhaan’ dee kamaa-ee dah theaan dhar kae Khaalsaa jee bolo jee Vaaheguroo.
  1. Bhai Taru Singh, (6 October 1720 – 1st July 1745), a Sikh martyr the son of Shaheed Bhai Jodh Singh and Bibi Dharam Kaur a Sandhu Jatt family of Poohla village, in Amritsar district of the Punjab.
  2. He had a younger sister named Bibi Tar Kaur. He was a pious Sikh who following the teachings of the Sikh Gurus, worked hard tilling his land diligently and lived frugally; although not a rich man, he was always happy and did much for his Sikh brothers and sisters.
  3. Bhai Taru Singh was a One of Great Martyrs, Who sacrifice his life to save the Sikhi. His scalp was removed from his head with Axe.
  4. Bhai Taru was born in Village Pahoola.
  5. Born in Punjab during the reign of the Mughal Empire, Bhai Taru Singh was raised as a Sikh by his widowed mother, Bibi Dharam Kaur as his father, Bhai Jodh Singh had died in battle.
  6. Taru Singh was then barely 25 years of age. His dead body was cremated outside Delhi Gate at Lahore, where a “Shahidganj”, or martyrs’ memorial, was later constructed. It became a place of pilgrimage for the Sikhs.
