Bhupinder Singh Kohli

Bhupinder Singh Kohli is a senior officer of State Bank of India and is also engaged in social activities in Mumbai. He was born on 16th May 1960 in Mumbai in the house of Sdn. Joginder Kaur and S. Jagjeet Singh Kohli. He had his education there and then joined State Bank of India in 1980. Whereas he is respected as an honest and dedicated officer, he is better known as social activist, a motivator and an excellent human being. When in 2011, Mumbai train blast and terrorists attacks hit the people, he played a vital role in helping them by all means. Similarly, he did useful service for the people affected by Gujarat earthquake or Surat/ Mumbai storms. For helping the people, he has been organizing blood donation camps, providing food and other necessary articles and attending to the wounded/injured people. His mother (now 83 years old) had been collecting old and unused clothes and distributing them to the needy people. S. Kohli following in the footsteps of his mother also collects not only clothes, but unused and unexpired medicine and provides them to charitable dispensaries.
He is a member of Civil Defence, the Red Cross Society and a Traffic Warden. He is a volunteer of many other organizations involved in social work. He is also associated with Home for old age people and a home for Leprosy patients. A unique service for which he is approached by many people is that he has made his personal car an ambulance. This happened when he noted one day an accident victim dying for want of ambulance service. He realized that he could help such people in distress with his new car which had been used sparingly. He decided to use it in emergencies for shifting patients from or to hospitals free of cost. The very next day, he got “free hospital service within Navi Mumbai during night” inscribed on the car and was on the job. How many of us would have thought of using our own cars for such charitable cause? Another important aspect of Mr. Kohli’s personality is that he is a motivational speaker. Whenever he delivers such lectures, he inspires the people with hope and positivity. This attitude is inconformity with Gursikh way of living as a Gursikh always remains and keeps others in high spirit (Chardi Kala). As his mother has formed a ladies Kirtan group, mostly of senior citizens, he, too associated himself with Sikh activities. Thus, he is a great source of inspiration and a true role model of a Government servant acting simultaneously as a social activist (remaining useful for the society).
