Captain Amrinder Singh

Captain Amrinder Singh, belonging to the royal family of the erstwhile state of Patiala, and Chief Minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007, was born on 11th march 1942. Being the son of Mahraja Yadwindera singh, ruler of Patiala state he had best of the education at Sanawar and then at the prestigious Doon school. He chose army as career in 1963 after graduating from the National Defence academy and Indian Military academy and served as captain during 1965 Indo-Pak War. Presently, he is Member of Parliament from Amritsar (by defeating Sh. Arun Jaitly of BJP in 2014 election) and the President of Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee. Captain Sahib will be a role model for those persons who have interest in military history. He is one of the best writers in this regard. He has written books on war and Sikh history which include ‘A Ridge Too Far’, ‘Lest we forget’, The Sunset, ‘The Rise and fall of Lahore Darbar’ and ‘The Sikhs in Britain’. Among his most recent works are Honor and fidelity, India’s military contribution to the Great War 1914 to 1918 (2014) and The Monsoon war, wherein he has narrated his memoirs of 1965 Indo-Pak war. He lives in his Ancestral Palace at Patiala with his wife Maharani Parneet Kaur, who is also a member of Congress Party and was a minister of state for external affairs in the cabinet of Dr. Man Mohan Singh.
