Davinder Singh Bindra

Davinder Singh Bindra, a social activist and a Sikh preacher from Dehradun, was born in Nagpur in 1947. He did his schooling at many places like Mumbai, Kanpur and Amritsar and completed his education with a Master degree in Economics from Dehradun. He remained in Bank service where he worked with honesty and dedication and retired as a Bank Manager. However, his propagating in Sikh religion prompted him to make and in depth study of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He started attending Gurmat gatherings and camps for children across India and gave lectures on teachings enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. He realized that educating the community should be the top priority. Thus, in 2010, he established Gursikh Education Society an NGO with the objective of providing finance for needy Gursikh students extending from Kindergarten to Professional course. As of date financial assistance is being provided to about 200 school students and 15 students pursuing professional courses spanning from Engineering, IT, Nursing etc incurring an annual expenditure of about Rs. 35 lacs.

About a dozen students have completed their courses and are well placed in various sectors and are contributing significantly for the cause. His consideration; “in modern time our best gift to our Guru will be to create educated and responsible citizens of the society through excellence in education and ethical standards of living.” Basic essence of Sikh religion is Sarbat Da Bhala and if a Sikh is educated not only academically but with moral values as well he will not only be a good individual but a good citizen thereby contributing towards the welfare of the society. Therefore Gursikh Education Society has laid out its Mission; Mission 2040 “to make our panth the most educated society of the world” to accomplish which such activities have already been initiated in Delhi, Ambala and Kanpur and we are discussing with organizations in other cities to join the movement for the Chardikala of the Panth.
