Dr. Balbir Singh Sukhija

Dr. Balbir Singh Sukhija was born on 15th March 1944, and acquired a high qualification of Masters in Science followed by a Doctorate. He worked as a research scientist and rose to the position of Emeritus Scientist and Expert member UNESCO working group of Groundwater in Emergency Situations. He is the Author and Editor of several books, numerous research publications and patented new techniques. He is listed in the WHO IS WHO in WORLD as well as in WHO IS WHO in ASIA. His Significant contributions include development of new tracer techniques in the field of earth sciences especially- Groundwater Hydrology, Secondary recovery of oil & Paleo-seismology. After his retirement as a role model scientist, he has proved himself to be a great motivator for younger generation to apprise them of true Sikh way of living.

His Gurmat activities include doing Sewa for the Parchar of Sikhi among youngsters, as Secretary of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle (AP Unit) , Dharam Parchar Committee, Hyderabad & Guru Tegh Bahadur Educational Society. He does it by organizing Gurmat Camps, Quizs and other competitions and editing of a Gurmat Quiz book & providing financial help for education to economically and socially challenged Sikh children in Hyderabad and surrounding towns. He feels that good, dedicated and visionary leadership should emerge among the Sikhs. In his words, as now Sikhs are spread all over the world, there should be representations from all walks of life and also all over the world based on merit and leadership qualities. However, a new organizational structure needs to be established taking in to its fold as many as Sikh organizations as possible. Although he lives in Hyderabad with wife Jagjit Kaur Sukhija, retired DGM, R&D unit of BHEL, the couple spends some time in USA, where their 2 daughters are settled. Sdn. Sukhija also takes great interest in Gurmat activities and the daughters and grand children also perform Kirtan and other religious activities.
