Dr Harshindar Kaur, daughter of Prof. Pritam Singh, an eminent writer and President awardee and granddaughter of Prof. Sahib Singh , scholar, theologian and grammarian of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji , is a world renowned paediatrician, a powerful orator, humanitarian, international women rights activists activist, social worker and writer of repute. Her social activities include creating awareness against female feticide, infanticide and crimes against women and fighting for female rights by giving lectures to create awareness at various forums in the country and at the international level for the past 22 years. She is president of Dr Harsh Charitable Trust and this trust has been helping the poor girls of Punjab in their education. She has also started a worldwide No Dowry Campaign wherein around 28,000 students, both boys and girls and their parents have taken an oath and given written undertaking that they would shun dowry and neither take nor demand dowry at the time of their marriage. This movement has spread among Punjabis residing in Canada, USA, Europe, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Students of various colleges of Punjab have also joined the movement. She is so dedicated to her profession and social activities that she has been interviewed at different platforms world over, has been appreciated, lauded for her activities and felicitated by various organizations of the world including the United Nations, Geneva, House of Commons, Canada, Parliaments of NSW, Australia (Canberra), Assembly of California, Punjab Govt. SGPC, Chief Khalsa Diwan, Berkeley University, California and Rotary International. The list of her honours and awards is so big and impressive that it justifies her selection among Top 100 Women Achievers of India by the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare, Govt. of India (honoured by the President of India on 22 January 2016. ). She is the only one selected on the issue of improving the child sex ratio in India. She is practicing as pediatrician and living in Patiala, Punjab along with her husband, Dr. Gurpal Singh Sachdeva ( Asst. Professor, Govt. Medical College, Patiala) who associates with her in all social and charitable activities, and is the hony. secy. of Dr. Harsh Charitable Trust. Their two children also endorse and support these activities. They have organized hundreds of medical camps for helping the poor and needy people. Their nice behavior, humanity and inspiring works and achievements make them a wonderful role model couple.
