Dr. Iqbal Singh Ahuja

Dr. Iqbal Singh Ahuja, an eminent Gynecologist, was born on 02.01.1945 at Sujanpur, Distt. Gurdaspur, Punjab. After obtaining his M.B.B.S & M.D. from Punjab University, he set up his practice at Ludhiana under the name of Iqbal Nursing Home & Hospital at 74 Club Road Ludhiana. Dr. Sahib is a Pioneer to start IVF Technology in Northern India. He introduced IVF Test Tube Baby Technology first time in North India, in April 1991. First test tube baby of North India was Delivered in 1992 by him. For this achievement, Dr. Sahib got tremendous applause and attention. He was twice honored by Govt. of Punjab in 1993 and 1999(State Awards). The other authorities who have honored Dr. Sahib include Vice Chancellor Baba Farid Medical University, Punjab (Life Time Achievement Award), Governor of Madhya Pradesh (Doctor of the Millennium Award), American Biographical Institute (Award of Excellence in Medical Science Infertility Expertise) 2011 & His Holiness Hon’ble Dalai Lama (Excellent Social & Medical Accomplishments Award) in 2016. Dr. Sahib has contributed a number of scientific articles and undertaken various research projects. He is also known for having organized useful seminars relating to pregnancy, genetic counseling, sterility and other subjects relating to women health disorders. He has also been associated with various Medical societies in different capacities namely, State President IMA Punjab 1989, Founder Secretary Indian Menopause Society Ludhiana Chapter, State Chairman Academy of Medical Sciences 1995, Fellow of Royal Society of Health London Fellow of Indian College of Private Practitioners, Fellow of Indian Academy of Medical Specialties, Life Member of American Medical Society Vienna, Life Member of American Fertility society USA, Life member of Indian Academy of Health Education, Life Member Indian Medical Association, Life Member Indian Association of Sex Education, Life Member International Council of Sex Education & Parenthood, Life Member Indian Society of Hypertension, Life Member Red Cross Society, Life Member Indian Menopause Society, Chief Patron Jyoti Vigyan, Former Member Advisory Committees Health Corporation Punjab and Former Member Human Organ Transplant Committee of Punjab Government. In addition to being a great doctor, Dr. Iqbal is also a renowned figure in social, educational and religious circle. He set up a trust in January 1982 under the name Baba Deep Singh Shaheed Educational Trust. This is aimed at giving educational scholarships to school and college going children. Currently, the number of such children is more than 100. Their educational expenses including those of books are being met on continuous basis. A Philanthropist as he is, he has treated the poor and needy free of cost. He donated his ancestral property for the construction of a Community Cente namely Nirmal Samiti Kendra in his ancestral village of Sujanpur. Three Community Halls and a permanent drinking water project Chhabils were constructed in the slum areas of Ludhiana for the poor and needy. His interest in Social and charitable causes is evidenced by the fact that he is Charter President of Lion Club, Ludhiana, President Children Welfare Society and President Women Welfare Society. He is a recipient of Melvin Jones Fellow (MJF) Award – The Highest Recognition Award from Lions International U.S.A . As a promoter of people’s health, he has also worked in different capacities for promoting sports. He is President Distt. Body Building and Weight Lifting Association, Ludhiana and Vice President, Distt. Cricket Association, Ludhiana (1993- 1997). Being a noble Sikh, he respects all religions and has always donated generously for any religious cause including construction of religious places. Last, but not the least is Dr. Sahib’s interest in writing. He has written a number of articles on social and political subjects also. In addition, he is the author of Ek Noor Te Sub Jag Upjaya, Happy Moments & Happy Memories, Asha (short stories completion) and also famous for writing “Middles” in National Daily – The Tribune.
