Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains

Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains is the world famous encyclopaedist, reputed Musicologist, philanthropist, dedicated environmentalist, eminent drug therapist and community activist. He was born in India at Dagana Kalan, his maternal village near Hoshiarpur to mother Sardarni Pritam Kaur and father S. Naginder Singh Bains in 1936. His father, being a small farmer was not in a position to give higher education to his son. However, S. Raghbir Singh did small works and carried on his education upto master degree from Punjab University. When he worked with northern Railway and then as inspector taxation with Punjab Government, he carried on his studies and obtained the degree of LL.B from Guru Nanak Dev University Punjab in the year1982. After sifting to Canada, he earned drug-counseling certification from different institutions in Canada and USA. Dr Bains earned the degree of Ph.D. from USA in 2002 at the age of 67 on world religions and world cultures. Dr. Bains has a vast experience of working in different government and non government advisory committees in India and Canada. He has a rich experience of working in Drug Addiction Counseling Department and chairman of the Gains Act Tribunal in British Columbia Canada.

Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains is the author of the ‘Encyclopedia of Sikhism’ on multimedia technology which is the first of its kind in the world. A living legend, Dr. Bains touched the heights of lifelong achievements by dint of his honest labour, commitment and hard work in life. He has earned good name, and fame and accomplished more than most men of his time. He has been honored with hundreds of local, national and international awards like- oder of British Columiba (2005), International Dashmesh Award (U.S.A-2000), Community Service Award (Africa-2000), Scholar of Sikh Literature Award UK-2000), Order of Khalsa, Prominent Sikh of the Century, Govt. of Punjab (India 1999), Title of ‘Panth-Ratan’ gem of the Nation, Punjab (India 2001), Life time Achievement Award 2013 by Social Educational Welfare Association (India-2013) and yet many more . Dr. Bains offers his expertise on social evils like drug menace, domestic violence, female foeticide, prostitution and human trafficking to people of all ages and genders in his city, religion, province and country and also outside its borders addressing seminars, interactive workshops, publishing articles and creating awareness through audio visual aids-media. This would enable future generations to become productive members of global socio-economic fabric.
