Dr. Varinder Pal
Singh


Dr. Varinder Pal Singh is a senior SOIL Scientist, presently working in the Department of Soil Science,
Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana. He was born on 27.03.1972 in Ludhiana in the house of S. Sajjan
Singh and Satwant Kaur. With a doctorate degree in his field on site specific nutrients management, he
has won a good number of awards and distinctions. The same include Dr. Sukhdayal Nijawan Gold Medal
{During B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.)} and Junior Research Fellowship Award (ICAR) New Delhi. He has
published more than 70 publications in Research and Extension Journals. Indian National Science Academy
recognized his research contribution in the field of Soil Science and selected him as visiting Scientist to visit
International Rice Research Institute, Philippines.

In addition to being a great scientist, Dr. Sahib emerges as a Sikh role model for his social and religious
activities. The Organisation founded by him in the name of Atam Pargas Social Welfare Council is a group
of Academicians working in more than 300 Academic Institutions to empower teachers to inculcate moral
values in the students to help them become “SACHIARS”. For this purpose, two dozens educational books
have been published and distributed for various classes right from nursery to nineth standard. The members
of this organization under the leadership of Dr. Sahib interact with the teachers, organize programmes and
guide the students on moral values and conservation of natural resources. They hold Regional Educational
Workshops, Training Camps for Teachers and Educational Conferences for this purpose. They are also
running training and educational programmes for village farmers. The farmers are encouraged to avoid use
