Gagandeep Singh Bedi, was born on 9th September 1968 at Hoshiarpur, Punjab in the house of Dr. Trilochan Singh Bedi and Prof. Darshan Kaur Bedi. He obtained his qualification in B.E. (Electronics and Electrical Communication) and then joined as a lecturer in Thapar institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala (1989-1991). In 1991, he was selected for Indian Engineering Services and got a posting in Indian Railways. In 1993 he was selected in the IAS and was allotted Tamil Nadu Cadre. Since then, as an IAS officer, he has held many prominent positions like Addition collector (DEV) Cuddalore, Commissioner Corporation, Madurai, Collector, Kanya Kumari District and then Cuddalore District, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, Chennai and presently he is working as Secretary to the Government, Ruler Development and Panchayat Raj Department. In June 2016 he was posting as Secretary to Government Agriculture Department. S. Bedi has shown his excellent performance in all his postings and received various honours for his works. Being a true Gursikh he is a true lover of nature and pay maximum attention to the environmental problems. This is evidenced by the fact that he was awarded Green Award in 2003 and also 2004 for the special efforts made by him in Kanya Kumari and Cuddalore District to promote Eco tourism projects and other environmental projects. In 2004 he received special award from the Hon’able Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for meritorious disposal of community petitions in Cuddalore District. In 2006 he was awarded the Best Collector Award by Indian Red Cross Society on 27 July 2006 for the Commendable work done to rescue the people as well as relief operations during the tsunami and the floods in Cuddalore District where he took the social service of various organization including Sikh organization in building infrastructure including houses for the tsunami affective persons. He was also awarded State Best Practices Award on 15th August 2013 for effective implementation of “AMMATHITTAM” to redress the differences of the people through revenue Department. In 2016 he received National Award for the implementation of Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme as Secretary, rural Development Department of Tamil Nadu from the Hon’able Finance Minister of India Shri Arun Jetley. NDTV India also honoured him for his outstanding services to the nation for coordinating relief and rehabilitation works in Cuddalore floods of November-December 2015. This award was given in the Indian of the Year Award.
