Gurdwara Chowk Bazar Chittagong

There is one historical Gurdwara known as Gurdwara Chowk Bazar Chittagong. It is also associated with the travels of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. As per the history mentioned at the site of Gurdwara, Guru Nanak stayed here and than established a Manji (centre of propagating religion) with Bhai Jhandia, an employee of the then King Sudharsen, as the Parcharak. Later on this Manji was turned into a Gurdwara. This Gurdwara was under the control of Mahants. When the Sikhs challenged the authority of Mahants, the matter went to the court. In the meantime, the court stayed all the programs at the Gurdwara and the Sikhs felt deprived of the Some Prominent Gurdwaras and 17 Sikh Organizations of The World spiritual happiness which they were getting from the programs being organized there. As most of the Sikhs living there were employees of railways, they requested the railways to allot land where they could construct a new Gurdwara. A new Gurdwara was started in a shed. In 1947, when most of the Sikhs left East Pakistan, this Gurdwara was again closed. However one Muslim family of Mr. Ali helped a few Sikhs and Hindus remaining there to get back the land and start the Gurdwara. While making efforts to get the Gurdwara land free from the custody of a Police Officer, Mr. Ali had to face a number of problems. He was even attacked, but, God saved him and brought him success. This Gurdwara in known as Gurdwara Pahartali.
