Gurdwara Sacha Sauda

When Guru Nanak’s father Mehta Kalu ji thought of settling his son in some business, he gave him rupees 20 so that he could purchase some merchandise for doing business. However, Guru Nanak came across on his way some sadhus who were hungry and without food. The Guru decided to use this sum to provide a meal (Langar) for the Sadhus. This action of his son annoyed Mehta Kalu Ji. Thus, the Guru stayed back at a place now known as Gurdwara Tambu Sahib. The place where Guru Nanak had fed the Sadhus is now a place of magnificent Gurdwara that was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, on the pattern of a fortress. Originally, the Gurdwara was managed by the Udasis. However, when SGPC was formed, they took over the control of its management. At the time of partition, the Gurdwara was closed as most of the Sikhs and Hindus living in this area had migrated to India. It was on the occasion of Baisakhi in April 1993, the sangats were allowed once again, to pay homage to the Gurdwara, some 46 years after the Partition of ‘47.
