Gurdwaras in Pune

In Pune, there are more than 10 Gurdwaras, managed by the various committees including Singh Sabha Registered under the societies act. Again, there are other Gurdwaras numbering more than 10, which are managed by Army (Pune being Southern Command Army Headquarter). Coming to the civilian Gurdwaras. Guru Nanak Darbar is the most famous Gurdwara in Pune. This Gurdwara is managed by the Pune Camp Sikh Association of which presently Sardar Charanjit Singh Sahani is the president. The two persons who have played a vital role in the construction of this Gurdwara and adding there upon a School and a Dispensary are Sardar Harminder Singh Ghai and Sardar Sant Singh Mokha. These persons remained associated with the Gurdwara from very beginning and played a major role in constructing the said Gurdwara. Sardar Harminder Singh Ghai remained its president for many years and is still held in highest esteem in managing the affairs of the Gurdwara and other units attached to it. Sardar Sant Singh Mokha has been the building committee chairman since beginning and continous to hold this position. Among the various Gurdwaras managed by the armed forces, mention may be made of Gurdwara Military Hospital, Range Hills. This Gurdwara is situated in Khadki on the land owned by the army. Along with the Gurdwara, there is a temple and also a mosque. These religious places have been made to enable the army persons and their families to visit them for the purpose of obeisance and worship. However, it is noted that when on Sunday the main congregation is held, the majority of the population is of civilians including a large number of non Sikh local people. Langar is served on that day. The local Sangat plays an active role in taking administrative decisions.
