Hardev Singh Virk

Dr. H.S. Virk was born on 23rd February 1942 at Kamoke, Distt. Gujranwala (now in Pakistan). After doing his M.Sc. in Physics, he started his teaching career from G.N. Engineering College Ludhiana (1963- 65), then served in Punjabi University, Patiala (1965-79) and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (1979- 2002). He got his doctorate in Nuclear Physics under French Govt. Scholarship Scheme from Marie Curie University, Paris, in 1972. A widely travelled person throughout the world, Dr. Virk has published 380 research papers in journals of repute; 35 books in areas of science, religion and literature; 150 articles on science education and book reviews, etc. Punjab government honored him with Shiromani Award for Scientific Literature in Punjabi (1993). After his retirement from G.N.D.U. Amritsar in 2002, he was reemployed as Director Research in DAVIET, Jallandhar (2008-11), and as Visiting Professor in SGGS World University, Fathegarh Sahib (2013-16).

Recently, he has been appointed as Professor of Eminence in Punjabi University, Patiala. He is doing a wonderful Job by propagating Sikh religion on scientific lines through his lectures and writings. His books: ‘Scientific Vision in Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Inter-Faith Dialogue’ and ‘Sikh Dharam ate Vigyan’ are a valuable contribution in this regard.
