Harjeet Singh Sandhu

While looking for role models, there is one field in which there is no competitor for S. Harjeet Singh Sandhu, who is the only Sikh Mosaic artist living in the United States. Mosaic art is different from other art forms in the sense that the artist here does not use brush and colors, rather he uses small tools to make art on glass and glass tiles. When he was in Punjab and obtained his qualification in fine arts, he started his career as a physical education teacher, but, gradually became a successful sculptor and painter, earning recognition as northern India’s sculptor of the year in 1983. Two years later, he joined his sister in Bronxwood, there he started his own business of sign making at Boston road. When he started making Mosaic creations, his very first creations of Baba Farid ji, 12th century Sufi saint-poet made him popular. He later on made the 2-foot tall portrait of mayor Bloomberg in a dapper blue suit, complete with a small American flag pin on his lapel. He has also made Mosaic for Golden temple and a portrait of President Obama. His Mosaic creations have made him a role model because he is the master of that art which has no other persons for making a comparison. We have hopes from him that in coming years, he will give us some more beautiful creations and prove his wonderful artistry.
