Harminder Singh

Harminder Singh was born on 1st June 1941 at Sialkot (Now in Pakistan). He did his Post Graduation in Sociology in 1965 and Law graduation in 1967 from Punjab University Chandigarh. After completing his education he joined his family business of cycle parts manufacturing and trading and he became the Managing Director of Group of Industries known as Freedom Group. His hard work and vision made the group quite well known in the business circles for which he was decorated/recognized with gold medal and Udyog Patra for best performance and Self Made Industrialist by Vice-President of India on 1979, with Productivity Award by S. Beant Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab in 1993 and with State Safety Awards almost every year. His active association with the promotion of business in Punjab is evidenced by the fact that he is the Chariman, Focal Point Industries Association Amritsar & Member Board of Governors, Punjab Industrial Safety Council, Chandigarh. He has been member of Zonal Advisory Board LIC of India (North Zone) New Delhi and Regional Advisory Committee, Central Excise, Chandigarh. Apart from being a prosperous business person, S. Harminder Singh is also very well known in charitable, social and educational activities. His dedication and devotion for the Rotary movement which he joined in 1977-78 has been adjudged as commendable at all positions. He was a popular Secretary of R.I. District 309 in 1980-81 and outstanding President in 1986-87. He has served the Rotary District almost on all the important District assignment-committees with distinction.  
He led the GSE Team to Florida (USA), District-6980 in year 1989- 90 and rose to the level of District Governor Rotary International District 3070 (India). He attended the 75th Anniversary of Rotary Convention at Chicago (USA) in 1980 and Asia Zonal Conference as well as South Asia Regional Conference in 1981-82 and 1987-88 held at New Delhi. He was the Chairman of Conference of Goodwill and Development Asia Zone-II hosted by Rotary Club Amritsar South on 26th March, 1995. He is a life member of society for the prevention of blindness and Rotary Cancer Foundation (India). He is also the President of Amritsar Bakersfield Sister City Committee Amritsar (Indo-US friendship). In the Sikh circles also, his services have been equally significant. He has been Finance/Addl. Honorary Secretary of Governing Council of Khalsa College (Group of Colleges and Schools) and is still a member of its management committee. He has been the member of Senate of Guru Nanak Dev University for many years. Now he has also been nominated as member of Governing Body of newly established Khalsa University, Amritsar. He was President of Chief Khalsa Diwan (Oldest Sikh Organisation) in India running 50 English Medium Public Schools by the name “Sri Guru Harkrishan Public Schools” mostly affiliated with CBSE, Three Colleges, two old age homes, one world famous Central Khalsa Orphanage and six hospitals. Presently he is the Member Incharge of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sr. Sec. Public School G.T. Road, Amritsar and Addl. Hony. Secretary of Chief Khalsa Diwan Charitable Society Amritsar. Thus, as a towering businessman, a committed Rotarian and a dedicated service doer for Panthik causes and institutions, he is a role model for all of us.
