Harsimrat Kaur Badal

Harsimrat Kaur Badal was born on 25th July 1966 in Delhi in the famous Majithia Family (S. Dayal Singh Majithia of this family was the founder of Tribune News Paper and Dayal Singh College now in Delhi). Her father S. Satyajit Singh Majithia belongs to famous Majithia of Punjab. She had her early education from Loreto convent school, New Delhi. Harsimrat later entered into the field of textile designing and pursued a three-year course in textile design. When she was married to S. Sukhbir Singh Badal son of S. Prakash Singh Badal on 21th November 1991, she started taking interest in Punjab Politics. However she entered politics in 2009 when she was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Bhatinda constituency as an Akali Candidate. She always spoke on the issues relating to Punjab and Sikhs. Her first speech was on 3 December 2009, where she expressed her concern about the victims and survivors of the 1984 Sikh riots.
This speech was so impressive that there after whenever she spoke, she was heard patiencely and appreciated by her party and their allies. She was reelected as an MP from Bathinda in 2014 having defeated Congress-PPP joint candidate, Manpreet Badal. For this, she has been appointed in the Modi Government as Union Minister for Food Processing. It’s not only her concern about Punjab, Punjabi and Sikhs and her impressive way of speaking with that concern in the Parliament and on other platforms that makes her a role model but also her deep concern for Punjab problems like girl infanticide and deteriorating environment by raising voice vigorously that makes others inspired by her. She was part of a project named ‘Nanhi Chaahn’ to save girl child and trees. This project presented her as a social activist as well as an environmentalist. The different aspects of her personality make her an excellent role-model.
