Harvinder Singh Anand was born in Delhi. After completing his education in Chemical Engineering from Punjab University, Chandigarh, he immigrated to U.S.A. in 1982. He remained engaged in his occupation of Chemical Engineer and worked in the capacity of President of Royce International, a multi national company involved in the manufacture of Industrial Chemicals. He figured as a role model Sikh when he was elected as the Mayor of Laurel Hollow on 19.06.2007. His inauguration ceremony on 02.07.2007 was widely covered by major Indian and American Media including CNN-IBN. Although, Laurel Hollow is a small town on the north shore of long Island, it is inhabited by rich people as there is an exclusive private beach with mooring rights for its residents. It is also known for Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, & a Cancer, Neuroscience and Genetics Research Institute. S. Harvinder Singh popularly known as Harvinder Harry Anand being the first elected Indian American Sikh Mayor in the state of Newyork, the news was welcomed by all the Indians, more so by the Sikhs all over the World. Anand also served as the Police Commissioner and the Director of the NASSAU Country Law Enforcement Exploring Advisory Board. He attended the Civilian Police Academy IN Nassau Country, Newyork. He was again elected as the Mayor for two more terms in 2009 and 2011. He did not run for re-election in 2013. In view of unique position held by him, a number of articles have been written about him in Media including “Newyork Times” and he has been frequently interviewed on the Meet the Leader programme on Cable Vision. It is this popularity of Anand living in Sikhi Saroop with a good behavior and helping attitude for the people that makes him a role model.
