Jasbir Singh Lailpuria

Jasbir Singh Lailpuria, Singer, musician and a writer was born in Faisalabad, Pakistan in a Sikh family which had not migrated to India after partition. Jasbir, popularly known as Jassi, came into prominence as a singer in 2009 when on the independence day of his country he sang along with others ‘Sohna Pakistan’. This song became so popular that it is played at the border while perfoming Flag ceremony every day. Infact, he is the only Pakistani Sikh music artist. His other popular songs include ‘Jatt Da Truck ‘. His Bhangra performances rock the people. Although he has performed at many places in Pakistan and other countries, he has not yet got a chance to perform in India. But, he loves Indian poets and places like Amritsar and Chandigarh. It is his wish to sing songs written by Indian Punjabi poets and also to sing in bollywood films too. His dual passion for Pakistan, and India’s Punjab makes him an ideol torch bearer for campaigns like Aman Ki Asha promoted jointly by The Times of India and Pakistan’s Jang group of newspapers. He is a role model as being in Sikhi Saroup he has won popularity as a pop singer and dancer in an Islamic country. Everyone starts dancing, when he dances to Bhangra beats and adds more vigour into the steps while performing on stage and singing “Jat naal karle compromise” and “Soni kudi Southall di”. It is his dream to see India and Pakistan good friends. He was instrumental in arranging a meeting between three Pakistanbased Muslim sons with their India-based Sikh mother a few years back. When this story of reunion between Harbans Kaur and her Muslim sons became viral on social media, Jassi became a real humanitarian hero in the eyes of all the people. We pray for Jassi that this role model Sikh of Pakistan wins laurals in the years to come and make the Sikhs all over the world proud of his success.
