  1. Jasleen Kaur Josan is a first Indian Sikh woman who has been selected by NASA to go to Mars.
  2. The Orion Mission is going to be the first man mission to Mars, which is on track to take place in 2030.
    While the 2020 MARS Mission is a one-way mission — the group will habitate on Mars and not return — Josan is part of the two-way mission which is set to happen in 2030.
  3. Currently based in Huntsville, Alabama where she is pursuing an integrated degree of master and Ph.D in space science from the University of Alabama,
    Josan was born in Kurukshetra, Haryana, India, and travelled to many parts of the sub-continent for her schooling.
  4. Josan is inspired by the prominent astronaut Kalpana Chawla.
    She was a part of an eight-member team that includes participants from three countries (India, Germany and Russia).
  5. Her previous achievement makes her more special as she was last year selected as a researcher for the NASA’s Orion 2030 mission.
    Jasleen completed her B Tech in Aeronautical Engineering from Chennai and pursuing her Masters in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the US.
  6. The young achiever had presented a research paper on “Mathematical Application in Aerospace for Safety Measures” in American Society of Safety Engineer (ASSE 2014) held in Florida and had won the first prize for the best presentation.
