Jaswinder Singh (Advocate)

Jaswinder Singh (Advocate) is an enterprising and dynamic leader of the Sikh community and is widely known for his dedicated services and commitment to the Sikh panth. He was born on 17th August, 1968 in Amritsar. Although he did his LLB, he did not focus upon legal practice and rather preferred to devote his time for propagation and promotion of Sikh religion. He started organizing Kirtan Darbars and such other programmes for spreading the message of the Gurus in such a way that people could understand the same in easy and their own language. His activities before becoming member of SGPC in 1996 included printing of Sikh literature in sixteen Indian languages and five foreign languages so that people from other communities and countries could know about the great religion. In 1996 he became the youngest member of SGPC and in 2004 he was reelected as its member. During his membership of SGPC, he remained very active in Sikh activities and dealt with Sikh issues with wisdom and dedication. For example, he appeared before minority commission in the case of Divya Jyoti Jagran Sansthan as a representative of SGPC and presented the Sikh view point for preventing the anti-Sikh activity. When the 500th Prakash Purab of Guru Angad Dev Ji was celebrated at Sri Khadur Sahib he made efforts to educate persons in the age group of 15-35 years in 89 villages. On the occasion of the 300th Centenary celebration of the creation of Khalsa in April 1999 he launched an organization known as Akaal Purkh Ki Fauj (APKF). He organized various camps for the Sikh youth, Samajik Chetna March at different places for spreading the message for environmental protection, female feticide and apostasy among Sikh youth. He also played a major role in sending 150 Pawan Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib by a special Chartered plane to Canada. His other activities like Gurmat summer camps, turban tying contests and the Singh International competitions were all aimed at inculcating love and dedication for the Sikh religion among Sikh youth. When the Singh International Competition were organized, many a young Sikhs were motivated by giving them the most prestigious and esteemed award ever given in the field of modeling. It gave them confidence that they were no less than any model in the world as they had a unique personality of a complete person with a crown like turban on their heads. APKF is running presently a Dental care Hospital, a de-addiction center, and a school at Village Vain Poin, District Taran Taran to give free education to the poor rural students. The school has progressed during all these years in all respects including status and strength which is now around 700 students. S. Jaswinder Singh is an excellent orator having clarity of ideas and Sikh concepts. As an Associate Convener of Panthak Talmel Sangathan he is making sincere efforts to raise the prestige and uniqueness of Siks by supporting Purewal’s original Nanakshahi calendar and Sarbat Khalsa concept as it was followed in the 18th Century (with timely modifications).
