Jaswinder Singh Kohli

Description

The life story of Jaswinder Singh Kohli is a rags to riches story inspired by Gurbani. He was born on 13th April, 1948 at Delhi in the house of Late S. Mohan Singh Kohli and Kulwant Kaur Kohli. Although, the Kohli family at that time had a weak financial position, they had a full faith in their Guru and Jaswinder was taught by his parents that if we do Paath everyday and remember our God, our Guru blesses us with everything we need. It was this firm faith in Guru and Gurbani that changed the destiny of S. Jaswinder Singh, when, he, after his school education went to U.K. and established his import business at Manchester. By the end of century, S. Jaswinder Singh had got everything he needed. He was blessed with two brilliant Children, one son and one daughter, a palatial house, fleet of cars and tons of money. He also gave to his children and then grand children the same advice which his parent had given him that if we remember our Guru at all times; he takes care of our each and every demand.
The family then got a Gurdwara Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib, Manchester, U.K.built within their business premises. They started inviting prominent Jathas including those who were financially weak but could sing Gurbani with devotion with a view to promote them and increase their economic standard (e.g. the Jatha of Bhai Kamaljeet Singh from Delhi). His life further changed when he came into contact with Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa Khanne Wale and the Trust created by him known as ‘Sukrit Trust’. He left his business to the children and started living in Punjab to work for the Trust which was mainly aimed at promoting doing Sehaj Paath among the people. A large number of Senchia, Gutkas, and Shabdarth were distributed among the people for this purpose. Many persons joined this movement and thousands of persons including young ones started doing Sehaj Paath. Another movement initiated by Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa relates to educating the Sikh children for strengthening the Sikh community. For that purpose he did ardas on 24th September 2006 and started Bhai Sahib Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa Sukrit University with an object of spreading education to each and every child of Punjab. But, as Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa died shortly after launching this project, S. Jaswinder Singh took this responsibility of “Educate Punjab Project”. He setup an office in Ludhiana and kept a staff of likeminded associates who visit everyday a number of Villages and contact the families and school’s Principals for a lecture by S. Jaswinder Singh. S. Jaswinder Singh visits these schools, villages and meets the children in big groups to narrate them his own story of rags to riches to emphasize that if we connect ourselves to the Guru, our all desires will be fulfilled. He also encourages children to study and shine in their academics so that the dream seen by Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa and now by Bhai Jaswinder Singh becomes true. As per this dream, every Sikh should become a Gursikh Judge or a Gursikh Doctor or a Gursikh Engineer or a Gursikh Administrator. All Sikh children must have higher education, excel in academics and others co-curricular activities and shine at the top. At the same time they must do Sehaj Path, adopt the Bani in their life and live the life of a Gursikh based upon the trio Principles of Kirta Karni, Naam Japna, and Vand Chhakna. His team finds out the poor deserving students and they are helped financially for carrying on their studies. S. Kohli has emerged as a role-model for these unique services to the community. His guidance and advice have influenced so many people that they have given up their bad habits including drugs and instead of family disputes, peace and harmony has now prevailed in their houses. He says that if Guru wants us to keep our hair unshorn, we must obey Guru’s command. The grand parents should play their role and recite Sakhis to their grand children for motivating them to follow Guru’s edicts and instructions. He too has his grand children who are being brought up in that manner. When he talks of Sukhmani Kaur, his granddaughter, he feels pride in telling that at the age of 11 she remembers a good numbers of Banis including Sukhmani Sahib. He also feels proud of 6 old year girl of U.K. who has been able to do Sehaj Path under his inspiration. Although he quotes Gurbani when he says ‘Hau Murakh Karai Layia Nanak Har Kamme’ @jT[ w{oy[ eko? bkJhnk BkBe jfo ezw/..#, the fact remains that he is doing a wonderful sewa in the field of education, both academic and spiritual, for the community. A Yeoman Service indeed, makes him a true Gursikh role-model preacher.
