Khushbir Singh Shaad is one of the few non-Muslim Urdu poets of the present times. He was born on 4th September 1954 at Sidhauli (Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, India) in the house of late S. Ravel Singh Hora and late Bibi Joginder Kaur Hora. His spent maximum time in U.P. and presently lives in Jalandhar. His son lives in Sydney, Australia, which is his second house. His daughter lives Lucknow with her husband. He has written a large number of books on Urdu poetry. The names of his books published so far are Janey Kab Ye Mausam Badley, Geeli Mitti, Chalo Kuchh Rang HI Bikhrey (also published in Pakistan), Zara Ye Dhoop Dhhal Jaye, Bekhwabian, Jahan Tak Zindagi Hai, Bikherney Se Zara Pehley, Lahoo Ki Dhoop and Baat Andar Ke Mausam Ki. He is so popular all over the world that he is invited to participate in many national and International Mushayaras and conferences. Whenever he recites his composition in a Mushayara he gets tremendous applause from one and all. He has not only recited his poems in USA and Australia, but also in many Muslim countries like UAE, Qatar, Behren, Pakistan, Omen and Singapore. There have been occasions when he participated in Mushayaras as a lone non-Muslim and even then he performed with such a bold conviction and command over language that he got maximum wah-wah. His poetry is published in leading newspapers of the world. He has also appeared in interviews in Dawn, Jang, Voice of America, BBC, Times of India, Hindustan Times, Geo, ARY, Metro-1, Doordarshan, DD Urdu, ETV Urdu, Aaj Tak, ND Tv and many more. It is really wonderful to see a person in Sikhs sarup reciting Urdu couplets (F/no) and Ghazals. He is really a role-model Urdu poet. He has been honoured with many national and international award including Yash Bharti Award 2014 by U.P. Government. The fact that Jammu University awarded M.Phil. degree on his work adds another honour for him. Before concluding the achievements of this rolemodel poet, It is worth quoting one of his couplet which also shows his love for his religion.
