S. Kuljeet Singh Malhotra

Kuljeet Singh Malhotra is a Writer, Producer and a Director of films based in Mumbai. His father, is a Music Director in the film Industry for the last 50 years and as such Kuljeet got an opportunity to know the film World and associate with people who were making films. Thus, after completing his education, he started his career as an Assistant of Shri K. Pappu and Shri Sawan Kumar. In the meantime, he completed a Commercial Art Course from J.J. Arts College, Mumbai. He learnt various arts of film making, but due to lack of funds, he could not go in for production of films. He started his business of printing under the name of ‘Malhotra Enterprises’ and ‘Malhotra Advertising Agency’. His specialty is printing different types of Calendars. It is in the course of this business that he prepared calendars with the photographs of the Gurus and scenes and pictures of historical events of sikh history. His desire to propagate Sikh religion got fulfilled through these calendars. Simultaneously, he sharpened his skills of writing, location hunting, shooting and pre & post production activities including editing, dubbing, mixing etc. When, the World was celebrating the 300th Anniversary of creation of Khalsa in 1999, he became anxious to convey the message of keeping unshaved facial hair as per the Maryada given by the 10th Guru. He thought of making a film on this subject. Thus, by using his skills, he produced a Movie, which was directed by Sham Ralhan. This movie named as, ‘Khalsa Mero Roop Hai Khaas’ was the first film made on the subject of the Maryada keeping of unshorn heir by the Sikhs. It touched the heart of the people and became popular in Foreign countries. It is unfortunate that the Sikh bodies like SGPC did not show the required interest otherwise Mr. Malhotra wanted that the film should be shown on Mobile Van screens in each and every village of Punjab and Sikh populated villages in other states. He had spent his entire money including a heavy amount taken on loans on this movie, but due to a luke warm response from our leaders, he had to suffer a loss. However, he did not regret as he said that he had fulfilled his mission of spreading the message of our Guru. The melodious music given for the movie was by the team of two Music Composers named as Hari Arjun (S. Arjun Singh Malhotra is his father). Another benefit that accrued to Mr. Malhotra by making this film was a valuable experience that he gained in the field of Film Production. Following this movie, he produced more than 50 Albums, mainly devotional ones. These albums include one containing the Japji Sahib by singing (sung by renowned signers like Sukhwinder Singh, Arvinder Singh, Jasvinder Singh, Kiranjot Kaur, Mohammad Aziz and Ravinder Sathe). He also continued to make movies and his next film, ‘Dharam Rai Jab Lekha Mange’ is awaiting release. Other two movies in Hindi, namely ‘Radha Kyun Na Jale’ and ‘Dulhan NRI’ are under production. By making all these films, he has dealt with various concepts like family drama, romance, comedy, horror, suspense and above all the devotional appeal. Mr. Malhotra aims at making more films on Sikhism, but like many other willing producers and Directors to make such films, is thoughtful about the interference of those religious leaders who fail to appreciate that the Media is presently the best way to propagate religion. We hope and pray to GOD that this role model Film Producer and Director will definitely progress in the respective field with a sincere object of propagating Sikh religion.
