When International Sikh Confederation came into being, he was the co-convener and has also been the Secretary General of the Confederation since beginning. Although, his contribution in the field of education and sports has been highly appreciable, but his contribution for procuring considerable amount of scholarships for the Sikh minority students is above all as it shows his love and concern for his community. In 2007-08 when minority scholarship scheme was launched by the Prime Minister for the benefit of the poor students, the amount of Rs. 6 crore set apart for Punjab could be utilized only up to 50 lakhs. It was mainly because there was no awareness among the people. International Sikh Confederation led by S. Kartar Singh Gill launched a massive awareness scheme by conducting T.V. shows, through advertisements and making personal visits to educational institutions and holding seminars and discussions with teachers, NGO’s, students and concerned departments. As a result of these efforts the amount of such scholarship and distribution thereof marked a tremendous increase. In the year 2015-16 Rs. 3.1 crores were distributed to the students and approximately 7 lacs students of Punjab have been benefitted. Dropout ratios of students in school level has come down from 23% to 9% in Punjab as per statics available with central Govt. All this has been done with the help of many NGO’s putting financial
help and physical efforts.
