Major Gen. Satbir Singh (Retd.)

Major General Satbir Singh (Retd.) will be remembered as a role-model for his significant role in establishing All India Federation of Ex-serviceman’s Organization which was established in August 2008 in the wake of UPA Government decision to implement sixth pay commission recommendation. Lt. Col. Inderjit Singh, who retired in 1978 was the founder of this organization with a view to raise and discuss the problems faced by the veterans of the armed forces. The organization was to play constructive role in nation building activities, promote and support IESM causes, including those affecting ESM Widows, war wounded, and injured; and render assistance and advice to veterans on matters of pension, health coverage and benefits, and legal issues. This organization has a governing body, which further elects the executive committee. It has membership from all the three wings of the armed forces, Army, Air Force and Navy. Maj. Gen. Satbir Singh has been the Chairman of the Executive Committee. One of the main issues being dealt with by this organization relates to the demand of one rank one pension, which means that the same rank officer should get the same pension. There has been nationwide protest at several places, even return of gallantry medals by the veterans to force the Government to accept their demand. The notification issued by the Government on OROP has not been accepted by the veterans and they are continuing with their protest against the same. As Maj. Gen. Satbir Singh is playing a lead role in respect of this demand, he is definitely a role-model for thousands of ex-army person and all those who are supporting this movement.
