Manikaran Sahib

We have another religious place in Himachal known as Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib. There is one Gurdwara known as Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Manikran Sahib, situated in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh. It is said that this place was visited by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and its mention finds a Bhai Jasbeer Singh Khalsa, Khanne Wale Bhai Davinder Singh Khalsa Khanne Wale place in Sikh Literature like Bhai Bala Wali Janam Sakhi or The Twarikh Guru Khalsa by Gyani Gyan Singh. The tradition records that after visiting Palmpur and Mandi, the Guru proceeded towards Kullu and stayed at this place. As, authenticity of this visit is not beyond doubt, this Gurdwara being very popular has been included in this list of Non Historic Gurdwaras. Further, this is not managed by any Sikh organisation and has many such features which many Sikhs may not appreciate, so its listing has not been done among the historical Gurdwaras. This is true that the Gurdwara attracts thousands of devotees and those tourists who visit this place for its unique natural surrounding and beauty. There is an ample arrangement for stay of the devotees and Langar is open all the time for everyone who stays or merely visits this place for a short time. As the story goes, when Bhai Mardana wanted to cook food Guru Nanak Dev Ji told him to lift a stone and when the stone was lifted a spring of whiling hot water emerged. Bhai Mardana Ji was told to tie the pulses in a cloth and knead and roll the floor into the hot water pool from which the cooked food appear it even today, the Langar is cooked in the hot water accordingly. It is also asserted by the concerned people that Guru Gobind Singh Ji had also visited this place along with his Panj Pyaras. The history and stories as narrated may not be fully correct, but the devotion of the people and the love of the tourists with the place are beyond imagination. People also take bath by taking a dip in the spring hot waters at the places specified for this purpose. The water is also used for drinking and some additional benefits are also attributed to this nature created hot water from the springs. Sri Guru Granth Sahib is installed in the Gurdwara. The Maryada is also observed and Kirtan Programmes also continue to be organised. However, there are some images and photographs of places and deities, which are not to be found in a Gurdwara in the strict sense. Similarly, there is no Nishan Sahib which is another feature of all the Gurdwaras.
