Mukhbir Singh

Mukhbir Singh, a Canadian born gursikh, came into prominence, when the World Sikh Organization of Canada held its biennial convention on February 27, 2016 in Mississauga, Ontario, where for the first time in its 32-year history a Canadian born Sikh was selected to lead the organization. S. Mukhbir Singh, born and raised in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, holds a master degree in Finance (MSc) from Concordia University. He has always been associated with activities for his community. Being proficient in English, French and Punjabi, he has been active member of both the Montreal and Ottawa Sikh communities. From 2011 to 2015, he served as the WSO Vice-President for Quebec and the Atlantic Region. It may be mentioned here that World Sikh Organization of Canada is a non profit organization founded in 1984 to provide an effective and credible voice to represent Sikh interest on the World stage as well as to protect the interest of Sikh Diaspora and promote and advocate for human rights. Till now, the organization was lead by the emigrants from India who became Canadian cetizens.
But, S. Mukhbir Singh is the first person who is a born Canadian Sikh and who will now lead a 31-member Board of Directors selected from across Canada. The Board also includes the highest number of second and third generation Canadian Sikhs in the organization’s history. Thus, it is a matter of pride that talented young professionals committed to community service and social justice, have come forward. S. Mukhbir Singh has become a role model for all the young Sikhs who will feel inspired by him. Mukhbir Singh’s words strike the note of inspiration, when he says in the true spirit of Sarbat Da Bhalla that ” I look forward to meeting with members of the Sikh community as well as other key stakeholders, to see how WSO can best meet everyone’s needs to ensure a brighter future for us all.”
