Nanak Singh Nishter was born on 13th July 1937 at Warangal of Telangana Pradesh in the house of S. Gurdat Singh and Ram Kaur. Nishter is his “takhallus” – pen name. He is 4th descendent of one of the 12 Risaldars of Sikh Contingent of 1200 personnel sent around 1830 by Maharaja Ranjit Singh as Peace Corps to help the Muslim ruler Nizam of Hyderabad. He had his education in Hyderabad and did his M.A. from Osmania University. Although, he remained in public life and served the society and the people of his community. He mainly earned from agriculture and invested his earnings in charity and giving best of education to his two sons and two daughters, who are now well settled in life. S. Nanak Singh Nishter has spent most of his time in promoting and propagating Sikh religion. He is associated with various social, educational and religious organizations. He is a social scientist, public activist, interfaith promoter, poet, orator and writer on religious and social issues. He has written more than 250 articles and pocket size booklets in Punjabi, Hindi, English and Urdu and distributed them free of charge. He has also got published some other booklets and pamphlets written by others for free distribution among the people. Being a poet himself hi writes and also recites in Mushahras and Kavi Darbars. Being a true gursikh he is humble, courteous and loves and helps everyone. He holds the view that a sikh must cultivate a sikh mind in a sikh body. He wants that each sikh should act as one man army and work for betterment of the community. He has presented papers on Sikhism and Interfaith Relations in various National and International Seminars, conferences and Universities within the country and abroad at U.K., U.S.A., Pakistan and Bangladesh.His best contribution for community is in respect of minority scholarships. He lead a movement to spread the message of availing Minority Scholarships through internet, print media and all other means. Fortunately the entire Panth adopted it. As a result from Kashmir to kaniya Kumari, Crores of rupees were availed of by the Sikhs. Most of the Gurdwaras and organizations opened offices to work on this project.
