Navjot Kaur Sidhu was born on 15.06.1963 at Ludhiana. She had her early education at Sacred Heart Convent School, Ludhiana and then completed her MBBS from Medical College, Patiala. She served as a Doctor at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala and was married to S. Navjot Singh Sidhu, a well known cricketer of that time. After S. Navjot Singh Sidhu entered politics, his wife also joined BJP and became an MLA in Punjab in 2012 from Amritsar as a candidate of BJP. She was appointed by the Punjab Government the Chief Parliamentary Secretary to look after the Department of Health. She had a very good reputation as a Doctor, and when she started working with the same honesty and dedication in Politics, she had to face a stiff opposition. The boldness and the sincerity with which she conducted sting operations and exposed the corruption and corrupt in Govt. and Private Hospitals attracted the attention of the people. The then Central Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad invited her to become a member of the National PNDT Committee for reforms in the Health Department. However, she wanted to work as a loyal member of BJP and a devoted MLA of her constituency. When she started criticizing even her own Government in Punjab and the party for their failure in fulfilling the aspirations and fulfill the commitments to the voters, her party members got estranged with her. Under these circumstances, she left the party and joined Congress Party. Her husband S. Navjot Singh Sidhu has also recently joined the Congress Party and will fight the election for Punjab Assembly in 2017. The couple is definitely a highly talked about couple in Punjab Politics and as such becomes a role-model for a large number of persons who have interest in the political developments of our state.
