Paramjot Singh

Sikh religion has always been associated with Music. The entire Gurbani as is available in Sri Guru Granth Sahib has been composed and set to Musical notations by the Gurus. Consequently, the Musical Instruments have also played a vital role. Some of the instruments, called Tanti Saaz are attributed to be the inventions by the Gurus. One of the Musical instruments called Tabla is generally associated with Sikh religion, that is why the renowned Tabla players in our country include a good number of Sikhs. When S. Paramjot Singh- a teacher in Ludhiana and a fond Tabla player, noticed that Shri Ramakrishnana had created a record for playing a Indian Musial Instrument Mridang for 301 hours in the Guinness Book of World Records, he made up his mind to break this record by playing on Tabla. He broke this record in April 2009 by non-stop playing on Tabla for 310 hours. Regarding this achievement, he explained that he not only made his family agree for this herculean task, but also took the permission of the management of Gurdwara Sri Dukhniwaran Sahib for practicing in this regard. As per the rules, only five minutes brake after each hour is permitted. After performing non-stop throughout the day one can rest for two hours. Paramjot continuously performed for 68 hours and then took rest for longer period. Ultimately, he was able to achieve his target of 310 hours and set the new record. After that, this record breaker not only found his name in the Guinness Book, but also became a role model for all those who are aspiring to get such a recognition.
