Pushpinder Singh, the founding editor of the Nishaan, an illustrated journal of the Sikhs, was born in Murree on 30.09.1943 in the house of Major General Mohinder Singh Chopra. S. Mohinder Singh Chopra was one of the earliest King’s commissioner Indian Officer’s from Sandhurst, who was also responsible for establishing the Wagah Border in October 1947 between India and the newly emerged nation of Pakistan. After three decades in the India Army, General Mohinder Singh was appointed as India’s first Ambassador to the Philippines and later was Director General of the National Institute of Sports at Patiala. Thus, S. Pushpinder Singh grew up in a services environment of a Gursikh family. He studied at the Doon School at Dehra Dun and later the Punjab University, Chandigarh. He joined the Engineering Division of a multinational company in Bombay, later becoming Chief Executive of a leading German Actospace company in 1978 which he headed for 24 years, with several international accomplishments in the industry. S. Pushpiner Singh is a Sikh Role Model not merely because of his wonderful accomplishments as referred to above, but also because of his dedicated services for the Sikh religion. His passion for Sikhism is exemplified by his devotion to the Nishaan magazine and regular participation in Seminars and Conferences organized by the Nagaara Trust of which he is the main trustee. When this trust launched “Nishaan” journal in 1999, to mark the 300th year of the creation of Khalsa, Dr. Manmohan Singh inaugurated the same. Since then, this illustrated journal has emerged as one of the best Sikh journals published in the World. It contains high class write ups and first hand information on Sikh issues and topics contributed by renowned Sikh scholars from India and abroad. This trust also organizes various prorammes which are aimed at promoting and propagating Sikhism. S. Pushpinder Singh always encourages historical research and has published several books in this regard. He is associated with many other Sikh organizations wherein also he provides useful participation and contribution of visionary ideas. In July 2014 he was invited to be part of the Centre for Guru Granth Sahib Studies at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in New Delhi, chaired by the venerable Dr. Jaswant Singh Neki, a most notable Sikh personality who for over a decade was editorial Director of the Nishaan Journal. He is also a member of the International Institute of Sikh Studies, New Delhi and took over as President of the The Sikh Forum at New Delhi in April 2016. All these activities and his dedication for his religion make him a real role model.
