Born in 1943, Rachpal Singh joined Indian Police Service and was allotted west Bengal cadre. However, his popularity as an officer attracted the attention of Madam Mamta Banerjee, who included him in her party Trinamool congress. He fought election in 2011 from Tarkeshwar constituency as Trinamool congress candidate. After wining this election, he was included in the cabinet and remained Minister for Planning in the West Bengal Government. It was really creditable for him to win election from a place where the number of Punjabies is insignificant. He fought election in 2016 and again won it. He really becomes a role model for those who, by remaining in Sikhi Saroop, want to prove their worth in politics outside the state of Punjab.
