Ravinder Singh, now Mr. Justice Singh of England, was born on 06.03.1964 in Delhi. As the family shifted to England, he grew up in a working class part of Bristol and attended Bristol Grammer School. As per his aptitude, he studied Law at Trinity College, Cambridge and did his L.L.M from the University of California at Berkeley in 1985-86. During his period at Berkelay, he was inspired by Prof. Frank Newman, a pioneer in the field of Human Rights Law. As such Mr. Singh developed interest in Constitutional Law. In 1988, he attended the Inns of Court School of Law to undertake his final examinations, and he was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in July 1989. For the next ten years, he worked at Gray’s Inn Square and specialized in Public and Administrative Law, European Community Law, Human Rights Law, Commercial Law and Media Law. Soon after he was made a tenant, Cherie Booth QC also joined 4-5 Grays Inn Square as a tenant from another set. From 1997 to2002 Singh was Additional Junior Counsel to the Inland Revenue. In 2000, he along with others set up Matrix Chambers and earned considerable reputation and income. He was known for his expertise in cross-disciplinary work and as “one of the most impressive youngers Silks” in the area of Administrative and Public laws. Singh was the Chair of the Bar Council Equality and Diversity Committee (Race and Religion) from 2004 to 2006, also fr2006to 2008 Singh was the Chair of the Constitutional and Adminitraive Law Bar Association. In 2009, he was made a Bencher of Libcoln’ Inn. Although, his judicial career started in 2003 as Deputy High Court Judge, he came to lime-light when he was appointed as a Judge of the Queen’s Bench Division.
