Rupinder Singh Magon

Rupinder Singh Magon a Canadian singer, songwriter, producer, actor and author, was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. It was his love for music which led him to maseter playing upon Tabla, harmonium, piano and dholak. In 1996, Rup along with his brother and one friend started a group under the name ‘JoSH’ (a South Asian fusion band). Later on, in 1998 Rup along with Qurram Q reestablished this group which has since been going on successfully. Their first joint compositions “Main Hoon Tanha” became the tittle track for their debut album. Rup and Q have continued to produce successful music and albums including Kabhi (2004), Josh’s much-anticipated second album, Mausam (2006), JoSH’s third album, and Beyond Kismat, JoSH’s fourth album released in 2010 and soon JoSH has worked on various other projects as well, including a remix of Grammy winner Nelly Furtado’s latest singles, “Promiscuous Girl” and “Maneater”. Among Rup’s accomplishments as a member of JoSH include becoming the first Canadian Sikh to win both MTV India and MTV Pakistan awards. In addition to his contribution to music, Rup also acted in a sprots comedy film ‘Speedy Singhs’ (also known as Breakaway), directed by Robert Lieberman, starring Vinay Virmani, Russell Peters, Camilla Belle, and Anupam Kher. Rup played the role of Jassi Singh, a member of the Speedy Singhs hockey team featured in the film. Akshay Kumar, Drake, and Ludacris also made cameo appearances in the film. Last but not the least, Rup had also become an author by writing a cookbook featuring South Asian cuisine, with easy recipes for men. Thus, Rupinder Singh Magon with so many skills like singing, composing, music direction, acting and writing has become a role model Canadian Sikh, who inspires the young generation of today.
