Sajjan Singh Cheema

Sajjan Singh Cheema belongs to a family which has given a number of sports persons. He along with his two brothers have played Basketball for their country. S. Sajjan Singh was born on 15.01.1957 at Village Dabulian in Distt. Kapurthala in the house of S. Surjeet Singh and Sardarni Gurdeep Kaur. He graduated from Sports College, Jallandhar and started playing Basketball in 1976. He caught the attention of the people in the very first University Tournament in which he participated at Jaipur. He represented India in 1982 in Asian Games and also in Asian Basketball Championship in 1981, 1983 and 1985. He was honoured with Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Award in 1983 and with Arjuna Award in 1999 by the Govt. of India. He sought retirement from playing in 1994 when he was offered a Job with Punjab Police. He served Punjab Police with utmost honesty and dedication till 2016.He was working as S.P. with an additional charge of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ludhiana at the time of his retirement. After that he thought of joining Politics.
He joined AAM AADMI PARTY and the said party while releasing its first list of candidates for Punjab Assembly Election, 2017 announced his name for Sultanpur Lodhi Constituency. As he has won laurels as a Basketball player and then earned a good reputation as a Police Officer, it is hoped that he will present a clean image in Politics also.
