Satdeep Singh

Satdeep Singh, a promising Sikh film director, editor and cinematographer, was born on 8th October 1986 at Ludhiana. After obtaining his educational qualification of B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, he worked as Senior Research Fellow in MERADO (a lab of Government of India’s research body CSIR) from 2009 to 2012. However, his interest right from childhood was in the study of Sikh History and Culture. He wanted to present the same before the audience. He wrote and directed many stage plays based on Sikh history, values and culture in college days. Finally, he thought of trying his hands on camera (handy cam) for shooting a play in natural locations. The result was his first one hour long tele film “Virse de Varis nu” which was released by Sikh Missionary College, Ludhiana in the year 2009 and was highly appreciated. One year later (2010) for the first time he sent his entry into Sikhnet Youth Online Film Festival in the form of a short movie “The Forgotten Truth” which won first place in the festival. Again in the year 2011, my short movie “Born to Lead” won first place in Sikhnet Youth Film Festival. Made a short documentary on the life of Gurmat Sangeet Legend Prof. Kartar Singh Ji the same year. It was played while they received lifetime achievement award at World Sikh Awards 2011, held in London. Made two short movies titled “Blind Journey” and “Five Folds” in 2012. Five Folds was winner of 2012 Sikhnet Youth Online Film Festival. Also it was official selection at Sikh International Film Festival 2012 in New York and Sikhlens Arts and Film Festival in California. Made another short movie “Taaj” which was First place winner at Diversity Video Competition 2012 held by Sikh Coalition Organisation in US. In 2013 he received a standing ovation from the crowd at Punjabi International Film Festival, Toronto for his film “Proud to Be a Sikh”. His another film “Empty Inside” (film on drug addiction) was also premiered at Punjabi International Film Festival, Toronto and Sikhlens Arts And Film Festival, California. He is continuing to make good films on various issues including environment and eliciting lot of applause and appreciation. His awards include Sikh Achievers Award by Fateh TV, 2014, Shaan-e-Sikh Virast Award, 2014 by Akaal Students Federation, Award of Excellence presented by Akaal Purakh Ki Fauj at Mr. Singh International 2012 and SGPC Award in the year 2010. His international awards includes Creative Sikh of the Year 2013 by SEWA organization, Four times Winner of Siknet Youth Film Festival (USA) in years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and Winner of Diversity Video Competition, California in year 2012. He is undoubtedly a great role model filmmaker.
