The story of Bhai Kanaya Ji doing service even to the enemies in the battle ground is well known in Sikh history. When serving the wounded persons after the battle was over on a particular day gave birth to an international Red Cross movement, people were not aware that this kind of service had already been done by Bhai Kanaya Ji. Now, all over the world Red Cross Societies have been formed and allied to international Red Cross Society based at Geneva, Switzerland. Red Cross day is celebrated all over the world on 8th May every year which is the birth date of Henry Dunant, who was the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace prize. This year the Red Cross Organisation of Punjab has brought to the notice of the concerned authorities that while celebrating this day Bhai Kanaya Ji who is the actual founder in this regard, must be given the highest regard. Infact, in India Red Cross Day should be celebrated as Bhai Kanaya Ji Divas. So that the world may come to know of the contribution of Bhai Kanaya Ji towards this movement. After Bhai Kanaya Ji, a group of people continued the concept of service to mankind. Bhai Addan Shah Ji was among the earlier Sewa Panthis who made this concept of Sewa more human by adopting non-violence Bhai Kanaya Ji Mahant Tirath Singh Ji Mahant Kahan Singh Ji in the extreme sense. Mahant Tirath Singh Ji was the last head of this sect. He was a very famous preacher of Sikhism and was loved by one and all. The present head Mahant Kahan Singh Ji is an equally popular figure who is doing service to the community by spreading the massage of the Gurus. It may be mentioned here that with the passage of time a number of sewa panthi groups have appeared on the scene. Even the Kar Sewa Groups doing Kar Sewa at different places are many in number. The most popular figure in this sphere of Kar Sewa was Baba Harbans Singh Ji, who did Kar Sewa at many places and popularized this concept. Where ever he worked, he worked with utmost devotion, fully dedicated to Naam Simran fulfilling the Sikh principle of Sewa te Simran. Presently, a number of groups of Sewa Panthis have also appeared and each one of them are in control of one or more Gurdwaras at different places. The Sewa Panthis centres are generally known as Tikana, Ashram, Dera or Dharamshala. There is a link between Sewapanthis and Udasis. Bhai Addan Shah was initially an Udasi Sadhu, but later on became a Sewa Panthi. Ishar Das Shastri Ji also, though an Udasi Sant, played an important role in the head organisation of the Sewa Panthis, Tikana Bhai Jagta Ji at Goniana Mandi. The Goniana Mandi headquarter seat is now occupied by Mahant Kahan Singh Ji.
