Suneet Singh Tuli, a visionary entrepreneur of Canada, was born in India, but, his family moved to Canada when he was very young. He graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor degree of Applied Science in Engineering from the University of Toronto. He worked as a Marketing Manager of Widecom Group Inc. from June 1990 to August 1993. He co-founded DataWind Inc. (along with his brother) in 1993 and since then he has been actively associated with the company’s innovative products. He came into limelight when his company DataWind Inc. (TSX: DW), launched a low cost tablet computer named Aakash. This company has a long experience of producing patented technologies to develop scanning, printing and imaging products that set world records in both price and performance. The innovative products and technologies created through these ventures have received numerous awards and accolades, including recognition by the Guinness Book of Records. DataWind’s Aakash2 tablet computer was launched at the United Nations by the Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon on 28th November 2012. In 2014, DataWind was recognized by the MIT Technology Review among the world’s 50 Smartest Companies. S. Suneet Singh was recognized by Forbes magazine in its 2012 Impact 15 list as a “classroom revolutionary” using innovative technologies to reinvent education globally. In 2014, the Intelligent Community Forum named Suneet as its “Visionary of the Year”. In 2015, York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering recognized Suneet as the “Renaissance Engineer of the Year”. He has also been honored by UK Trade & Investment, Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance, Indo Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Indo-US Chamber of Commerce. The company is now planning to bring to the market its low cost smart phones bundled with free-internet-access. The great entrepreneur is a Sikh role model not merely because of his innovative entrepreneurship, but also because of his qualities of a Gursikh. He is an excellent speaker with soft and sweet tone and remains humble with everyone. He donates with generosity for every cause and function which is aimed at promoting Sikh religious values. He is also a member of EcoSikh since 2014, where he addresses the developing worlds’ access to technology and growing environmental concerns. S. Tuli is an advocate for faith involvement in environmental issues, and is often outspoken on the need for faith leaders to lead climate action among their followers. In December 2014, S. Tuli was recognized at Buckingham Palace by the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) for his commitment to environmental action, and his technological contributions to underprivileged youth in India and countries in Africa. During this year also, he has been honoured by various organizations including Kes Sambhal Parchar Sanstha (Punjab Gaurav), Sat Sri Akal Charitable Trust (Sikh Achiever’s award) and Chief Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar The fact is that he is among the most popular role model entrepreneurs among the Sikhs.
