Taran Kaur is a singer living in Britain. She is a unique Role-model because she is the only singer in the world who sings devotional songs mainly related to Sikhism in English. These songs are mostly written by herself and therein she sings the praises of the Gurus. She has written and sung songs in remembrance of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Mata Gujri Ji and Char Sahibzade. She has recently sung a song to commemorate 350th year of Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The song starts like “You give us hope, you give us strength you taught us love and to defend”. It’s a beautiful tribute to the Tenth Master in the words of a young inspired Sikh girl. When she renders it on her guitar in her melodious voice, her repeated words “Guru Gobind Singh, Guru Gobind Singh You are our everything, the same touch everyone’s heart.” Some of her songs even bring tears in our eyes. When she feels concerned about her religion, Punjab State or its people, she gives an expressions to her feelings through a song.For example she wrote a song when Sikh sentiments were hurt because of the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
She opens her song “Oh I heard the news today, they have been saying that everything is not ok.” She not only writes and sings devotional songs relating to Sikh religion, but also is an excellent singer of Gurbani. Many of her compositions are available on YouTube. This rare competence of singing devotional songs in English and Gurbani make her a role-model.
