Ujagar Singh

Ujagar Singh, an IAS Officer of 1977 Batch, who was allotted Tamilnadu Cadre appeared prominently in the news in May 2016 when he fought State Assembly Election on BJP Symbol. Although, he did not win the election, he became a role model for all the Punjabis, rather the North Indians, as it was a rare instance of a North Indian testing election fortunes in the Dravidian Heartland. Originally, a native of Khiali, in Barnala District in Punjab, he was serving in Tamilnadu since long and after his promotion to IAS, he held various important positions in the State Govt. and retired as Special Commissioner in 2010. Late Shri M.G. Ramachandran, Founder of A.I.D.M.K. and the Chief Minister at that time persuaded him to stay back in Tamilnadu and join the party. Though he belonged to A.I.M.K.M.K., he contested on the symbol of B.J.P. in tune with arrangement between the allies. He is a social worker and very popular among the people. He likes Tamil people as he consider them very kind, nice and large hearted. Thus, the 66 year old Sikh politician from Tamilnadu may inspire the people with the idea that anybody who performs his duties honestly and thinks of the welfare of the people in the true spirit of Sikh principle of SARBAT DA BHALA, can be popular anywhere and not only in his native state.
