Vikram Singh Khalsa

Vikram Singh Khalsa, known as Ama Singh, was born and raised in California, USA. As his father is a Gurbani singer, he has been brought up in Gursikhi environment. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Elec. Engg. from UC Device and after that started working as a Software Engineer. However, his popularity is mainly because of his varied interests, particularly interest in doing magic. He started his magic beats after being inspired by a famous magician who had visited his school and gradually learnt the art of performing tricks. He has become so popular as a magician that he is often invited to present his shows at schools, colleges, personal and state gatherings. His other interests include inventing new gadgets and turning discarded materials into works of art or functional items like wallets. All such items are posted on his website under the ‘stuff’ section. He also enjoys graphic designing and often works on digital projects for various organizations. He is also fond of reading and writing. However, what makes him a role-model are not only his varied interests, but also his deep faith in Sikh way of living and his interest in Sikh activities and events.
Since childhood he has been accompanying his father for singing Gurbani and doing Kirtan is still a passion with him. He can play Tabla, Harmonium as well as Dilruba like a professional. He is also a good Kathavachak which he can do both in English and Punjabi so that the Sangat, especially the youth can understand meaning of Gurbani and connect with the Kirtan. He also elaborates in his Katha on a particular shabad as how that shabad can be applied in our life. He expresses wonderful views on various issues and people listen to him patiently. For example, regarding judging persons, he says “it’s very easy to judge people without knowing much about them, but if you actually sit down and talk to someone, you’ll be surprised at the amazing stories and experiences they may have been through. So just give people a chance, a receptive. At the same time, don’t put anyone on a pedestal. We can love and respect or even admire people, but after some point we just risk being disappointed when they fall short of our expectations. Only Guru Sahib and Waheguru are perfect.” Although, he has so many talents and uses those talents to please others or earn income, but, he firmly believe that “most of these things we do only provide temporary “highs”, sometimes even at the cost of our physical or mental well-being. The only thing that will satisfy us in the end is the love and connection with Waheguru, so we should constantly work towards that.” With such spiritual views and faith in the Guru, Vikram Singh, the possessor of so many talents, is definitely a role-model Gursikh.
