Surjit Singh


Surjit Singh is a well known business tycoon of Delhi. The textile business started by the family long ago
with a shop at Chandni Chowk Delhi, later on expanded to manufacturing and retailing at Mumbai also.
Sahib Ditta Mal Ji, a saintly personality born in Hindu family was highly influenced by Sikhism and then
he made all his five sons Sikhs. The business started at that time under the name and style of M/s. Ditta Mal
and Sons flourished considerably. Sahib Ditta Mal Ji spent most of his time at Hardwar in meditation and
service of the people, but his sons lead by S. Daya Singh, further expanded the business into different other
lines. When Sahib Ditta Mal Ji started a school in the name of his wife Mata Jai Kaur Ji, the family took a
lot of interest in making it as one of the premier schools of Delhi. Mata Jai Kaur Public School at Ashok
Vihar is now being run by a family trust namely Mata Jai Kaur Charitable Trust of which S. Surjit Singh is
the Chairman. The trust also runs a sister school under the name Bibi Jaspal Kaur Public School at Shalimar
Bagh Delhi. S. Surjit Singh is the youngest son of Sahib Ditta Mal and Mata Jai Kaur Ji. He is the Director of
a number family business concerns as well as the Chairman of the two schools. He has taken a lot of interest
in improving the infrastructure, the faculties and the education standard in the two schools. Along with
academic education, both the schools ensure that the students are taught the teachings of the Gurus and the
values of Sikh religion. The professional way in which the schools are run speaks volumes for the name and
fame which these schools have won in all respects including sports and co-curical activities. These schools
are definitely a great contribution of the role-model Sikh family now lead by S. Surjit Singh, who along with
others lives at Roop Nagar, Delhi.
