In addition to some Sampradas started during the period of the gurus or thereafter, many new sects among the Sikhs started emerging in the form of followers of Sikh Preachers. These Sikh Preachers were originally singers of Gurbani or Katha Vachaks or Speakers of various Gurbani issues. Some of them started affixing such words as Sant or Baba before their names. These titles of Sants or Babas were mainly appended to their name by their followers. However, the following in such cases gradually increased to such an extent that they established their fixed places of preaching. For example, a very famous pious soul existed 75 years ago with his Centre of Meditation at Jagraon, a place near Ludhiana.
His name was Baba Nand Singh Ji. He was born in 1870 in Village Sherpura, Tehsil Jagraon, Dist. Ludhiana. From his very childhood, he was dedicated to prolonged meditations and holy service. He established this centre at Jagraon which came to
Jagraon is also known for a Gurdwara called Gurdwara Mehdiana Sahib. Its importance lies in the sculptures and statues of Sikh warriors constructed here. This work was completed in 1972 under the supervision of Jathedar Jora Singh Lakha.
Another Saintly personality of the same name Sant Baba Ishar Singh Ji Rarewale had also a large following during his life time. He was influenced by Baba Nand Singh Ji and later on when Babaji visited his village, he part took Amrit from him
Among the Gurdwaras setup by Sikh preachers, mention may be made of the Gurdwara started by Bhai Jasbir Singh Ji Khalsa, Khanne wale. Inspired by Sant Baba Atar Singh Ji Mastuana Sahib Wale, Bhai Jasbir Singh dedicated his whole life
