Birth & preaching places of Gurus

Apart from the five Takhts, there are number of Gurdwaras in Punjab which mark the birth places and the preaching centres of the Gurus. Whereas the second Guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji was born at Matte Di Sarai, presently known as village Sarai Naga, and is situated in Mukatsar district, the third, the fifth, the sixth and the ninth guru were born in Amritsar district. Guru Amar Das Ji was born in Village Baserke Gillan, a small village located 13 kilometre south west of the city of Amritsar. Apart from the birth place Gurdwara, there is another Gurdwara known as San Sahib. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was born at Goindwal Sahib and Guru Tegh Bahadar Sahib at Amritsar, which place is known as Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal. This Gurdwara, situated near to Sri Harmandir Sahib is the place of a unique house in the history of Sikhism. Guru Ramdas Ji had started living here, when he founded the city of Amritsar (originally known as Ramdaspur). Guru Arjan Dev Ji got married here and was also blessed as Guru at this place. Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was also married at this place, and his son Baba Atal Rai Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadar Ji were also born here.
