Manjit Singh GK, presently, the President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, is the son
of veteran Sikh leader late Jathedar Santokh Singh Ji. He was born on 18th July 1958 in Delhi. His father
was instrumental in creating the chain of Guru Harkrishan Public Schools and S. Manjit Singh started
his education from the first of the schools of this chain, Guru Harkrishan Public School, India Gate, New
Delhi. He studied at SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi. Since childhood, he had been associated
with all kinds of religious and political activities of his father and was participating in such activities. He
addressed various forums and lead protests for promoting Sikh cause. In 1995, he became Chairman of Guru
Harkrishan Public School, Vasant Vihar and then later on Chairman of Guru Harkrishan Public School,
India Gate, New Delhi. As Chairman of the School his concern for special children was highly appreciated.
He was also elected member of DSGMC in 1995 and since then he has been continuously representing as
member of this organization from Greater Kailash area. That is why his name is suffixed by G.K. (Greater
Kailash). In 1999 when the 300th year of Creation of Khalsa Panth was celebrated, he undertook historic
‘Rangreta Guru Ka Beta’ march on foot from Delhi to Anandpur Sahib (first person to do so). He also
promoted Sarab Sanjha Khalsa Third Centenary Environment Trust to bring Sikh Community closer to
Environmental issues. When in 2013, the new DSGMC came into power, he was unanimously elected its
President. He got a second term as the President of the prestigious body which controls schools colleges
and other institutions in 2015. When he along with others was detained at Rome Airport and the group
was asked to remove their turbans for security check, he took a tough stand and explained the importance
of turban in Sikh religion. Ultimately, the matter was resolved and they were cleared without removing
the turban. This action on their part endeared S. Manjit Singh among the Sikhs. Being an excellent orator,
and well versed with the knowledge of Sikh history and Gurbani, he inspires all the people to follows the
teaching of the Masters. He has always been eager to promote the cause of Sikhs. That is why he played
historic role in getting Punjabi a second language status in Delhi. He launched aggressive campaign in
Delhi from 1999 to 2003 for achieving the long time pending demand of Sikhs regarding the status of
Sikhs from Afghanistan and also the deletion of black list. Recently, he visited Jagannathpuri along with
others including S. Paramjit Singh Rana, Chairman, Dharam Parchar Committee, (DSGMC) and met the
concerned authorities for getting the control of the Gurdwara commemorating the visit of Guru Nanak at
that place where he composed ‘Aarti’. He is also very liberal in sanctioning funds for any organization which
undertakes some useful projects in the interest of Sikh community. The celebration of ‘Delhi Fateh Divas’
commemorating the hoisting of Sikh flag at Lal Quila by Jathedar Baghel Singh and other was also started
during his President ship in consultations with the other office bearer of the committee, mainly S. Manjinder
Singh Sirsa (Gen. Secretary of DSGMC). The community has high hopes from this team lead by the popular
Sikh role-model S. Manjit Singh GK.
